Groove is the Way.
70s Funk Revival • 8-piece band • Málaga, Spain
Super Heavy Sound pays homage to the purest spirit of early 70s Afro-American dance music. With an overwhelming stage presence and a sound that speaks straight to the soul (and the body), the band faithfully and uniquely recreates that magical moment when groove was everything. Featuring eight top-tier musicians—some true veterans of the Málaga scene—the band combines youth, experience, and absolute respect for funk tradition. Drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and vocals intertwine with a powerful and sophisticated brass section, essential for capturing the character and power of the classic sound. Their repertoire is built on two well-defined pillars: the raw, swampy funk of New Orleans, with clear influence from The Meters, and the incendiary, meticulous rhythm of the James Brown universe, with carefully crafted arrangements and a relentless pulse. More than a concert, Super Heavy Sound offers a celebration of groove—a journey to the epicenter of an era where every beat had intention, every silence had weight, and every note was made to dance. Pure energy. Pure rhythm. Pure funk.

Our repertoire is divided into two main segments:
A show highlighting the influences of New Orleans funk, with a special tribute to the iconic band The Meters. Deep grooves, syncopated rhythms, and the raw energy that defined an era.
A show dedicated to paying homage to the incomparable James Brown, one of the fundamental pillars of 20th-century music and the father of funk. Pure soul, explosive horns, and unstoppable rhythm.
